What can I do online?

Can I get immediate cover?

Yes, providing you have a credit or debit card or the facility to pay by Direct Debit we can issue you with immediate cover, subject to normal terms and conditions. Please note that if you choose to pay by Direct Debit we will require a deposit from you, payable by credit or debit card.

When will I receive my insurance documents?

Your insurance documents will be despatched to you as quickly as possible by the insurer providing your policy cover.

How can I pay for my policy?

If you would like to buy your policy online, we can accept payment from the following Credit or Debit cards in one lump sum: Visa, Access, MasterCard, American Express and Switch. If you would like to pay for your premium by Direct Debit you can pay in one lump sum or monthly instalments. If you choose to pay by Direct Debit, you will be asked to pay a deposit using one of the card types listed above. We do not accept Solo and Electron online but if you select direct debit lump sum you can enter the sort code and account number shown on your Solo and Electron card. If paying by card, "card number" refers to the long number shown across the middle of your card (this is between 16 and 21 digits).

Is it safe to pay for my policy on the Internet?

Yes. Our site uses 128-bit encryption that disguises and protects your personal and payment details and prevents them from being accessed by or disclosed to third parties.

How-do I make a claim?

If you are unfortunate enough to suffer damage to your vehicle or it is stolen, you should report the incident to us as soon as reasonably possible. To report your claim, call us on 0844 800 3844. One of our customer service assistants will be happy to help.

Can I pay for my van insurance by instalments?

Yes, payment by direct debit is available, provided the proposer is aged 18 or over, and subject to a minimum premium. We require a deposit to start your van insurance and then the balance can be paid by Direct Debit over the following 10 months. A credit charge is payable and this will be added to your total premium. Full details of the direct debit deposit, instalment amounts and APR will be provided with your quote summary.

Can I change my instalment repayment dates?

This is possible, but not currently available online. You would need to contact our Customer Services department on 0845 373 5222, who will advise which preferred dates are available.

Can I cancel my Direct Debit at anytime?

Yes, you can cancel your Direct Debit at anytime by advising your Bank or Building Society. Please note that, by cancelling your Direct Debit, you are also cancelling the Credit Agreement. If you are cancelling your Direct Debit before the final payment has been made to us, the outstanding balance becomes payable immediately.

IMPORTANT: Cancelling your Direct Debit does not automatically cancel your van insurance policy.

Is there a courtesy van in the event of an accident?

Yes, with Comprehensive cover only, providing the vehicle is repairable (not written off) and the claim is arranged through your insurance company's approved repairer. The provision of a courtesy van will be subject to availability.

Does the van insurance policy entitle me to drive anybody else's car?

No, this is a benefit excluded under a commercial vehicle policy.

Is Payment Protection cover included with my van insurance?

This is not included automatically. Payment Protection cover is an optional extra.

Payment Protection covers the monthly amount due under the credit agreement for your van insurance policy (excluding any arrears), in the event of unemployment or disability (subject to terms and conditions - see the policy documents).

Do I have breakdown cover included in my policy?

No

Are my materials and tools covered by my van insurance?

No goods, samples or tools, which you carry in connection with your trade, are covered. However you may have business insurance, which may cover these.

How do I make changes to my policy online?

Go to www.hastingsdirect.com and enter your password and username and you should be able to make the necessary amends.
